Captain's Comment
Hello everyone and welcome to November, perhaps the October winds will stop now, although it looks like we are in for some hot dry days.
This Saturday is the 2-3-4 teams stableford, that's the one where you count the two best on par 3's, three best on par 4's and all scores count on par fives.
Always fun. Prefer you all to be in fours, however we can work some magic if there are a few threes. Following weekend is Show week so a plain Stableford, then the Wakefield trophy on the 22nd. That is a mens and ladies event, we will find Mens cards to pair with the Ladies, but you don't have to play together, so treat it as a normal stroke round. Speaking of stroke rounds, the top 19 for the shootout have been finalised and this is to be held on Sunday 23rd at 9am. If you were in it last year you will know what to expect. All 19 hit off first hole and one person is dropped off each hole until finally the last two play down 18. There will be a BBQ and drinks on the day, don't be in a rush to go home, we want to make a club social day out of it.
Then on Saturday 29th is Top Dog and the trophy is up for grabs. If you have won a top dog anytime this year you are in. Expect a personal email from Monty to that effect.
On the competition front, our Thompson McDonald team, which has had a very good season, has now come to a close. You may remember last year we went all the way to the final and ended up losing in a play off. This year not quite so good. Beaten by Chch in the Semi. However there are six other teams that never made the semi, so we can still be proud of our efforts.
Pressies, Metro A and B plus the over 60"s are just warming up, most of their games still to come. Play well Men.
Heads up, we are looking to have a grand irrigation opening on the morning of closing day - December 6th, coffee cart, sausages, free range balls, ribbon cutting etc more updates nearer the time, but perhaps mark on your calendar now.
As you can see out there, the grass is starting to fill in the ditch areas. It will still play as GUR for a while yet. Winter is well and truely over so we can go from a club length placing back to our usual 30 cm from now on. You still get the drop off the ditches first, before the 30cm place.
Enjoy some Summer golf, see you out there, Warren
