Welcome to McLeans Island Golf Club.

We want everyone to enjoy their round at The Island while helping us look after the course. Please familiarise yourself with the following local rules and course information before play.

Local Rules

Preferred Lies / Placing
30cm placing applies on all fairways.

Out of Bounds
Out of Bounds is defined by the boundary fence and the white pegs in front of the Clubhouse.

Red Penalty Areas
Unfenced areas of native bush, tussocks and long grass that are not regularly cut as rough are treated as Red Penalty Areas.

Fenced Tree Areas & Rhododendron Gardens
Free relief may be taken from fenced tree areas and rhododendron gardens.

Trees & Shrubs Under 2 Club Lengths
If your ball is affected by a tree or shrub under 2 club lengths in height, the ball must be lifted and dropped within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole.

Tractor Tracks, Wheel Marks & Stones
Free relief may be taken within 1 club length, no nearer the hole.

Tree Roots
For tree roots on grassed areas outside a penalty area, free relief may be taken at the nearest point of relief.

Lost Ball or Out of Bounds – Two-Stroke Alternative

If a ball is lost outside a penalty area or is known or virtually certain to be Out of Bounds, a player may use the Alternative to Stroke and Distance Local Rule (Model Local Rule E-5).

For a two-stroke penalty, the player may drop the original ball or another ball in the permitted relief area between:

• The estimated point where the ball was lost or last crossed the course boundary; and

• The nearest edge of the fairway that is no nearer the hole.

This option allows play to continue without returning to the spot where the previous stroke was made.

This option cannot be used when the original ball is known or virtually certain to be in a penalty area, or when a provisional ball has already been played for the original ball.

Course Etiquette

We ask all golfers to help us look after the course by:

Repairing pitch marks and replacing divots where possible.

Raking bunkers after use.

Keeping up with the group in front and maintaining a good pace of play.

Following all course signage, ropes and directions from staff.

Keeping clear of wet, damaged and roped-off areas.

Taking care around greens, tee blocks and native areas.

Disposing of rubbish in the bins provided.

Private Golf Carts

Visitors are welcome to bring their own golf carts to McLeans Island Golf Club, provided they are electric.

Petrol-powered golf carts are not permitted for use on the course.

Please follow all course signage and instructions from Golf Shop staff regarding cart access. Cart restrictions may be put in place when course conditions require them.
