President's Report

It appears spring weather has certainly arrived with a change in temperature and some drier conditions which is providing some run on the golf course. The greens are getting firm and fast with some very hot scoring 36 to 46 points across the different grades at our Thursday tournament this week. It certainly makes a huge difference to have sunshine on your back and dry ground under foot to enjoy your golf.

We are making good progress with the final stages of our Irrigation Project. Jared and some of the volunteer team have commenced with ground repair work to the fairway and trenched areas around the course. There are a number of piles of clean topsoil placed around the course in preparation for this work. If you are unlucky enough to land in or on these piles please take relief and we would appreciate you not walking on or over these piles. In the coming weeks these areas will be seeded and with a bit of warmer weather we will have grass starting to grow and provide a good playing surface. Please take care when playing near repaired areas as we still have a full club length placing rule in place to ensure you can clear the repaired areas without doing any damage.

Club membership numbers have changed with a small number of people deciding not to renew their membership due to relocation, age or health reasons. On the other hand we do have new people signing up to join our Club and as you meet new members please help them out and make them welcome.

The 1st September signals the start of a new financial year for membership subscription. If you have not paid your subs yet you have until the 15th of September to do so. Please contact George immediately if you have not made any payments on this year's subs.

Please remember any member who wishes to play interclub golf must be a current member (subs paid or commenced on payment plan). If you are a non financial member your team would be disqualified from the Canterbury Competition.

This week we have placed an order for 3 new golf carts to add to our hire fleet. These should arrive in late November ready for a busy summer hirer season. Unfortunately we are having some difficulty with the supply of a new greens mower as they have advised a new machine may not be available until later in 2026. Currently we are exploring other options to ensure we look at new technology in the machinery update and replacement program.

Planning for the future of our Club, our next 5 year plan.

Please make sure to have your say on what you like (don’t like) or what you think we could do to improve the Club, our facilities or our outdoor environment. We look forward to reviewing your feed back as we draft up our plan to take us through to 2030.

Pop a form into the suggestion box in the clubhouse or fill one out online here.

Enjoy your golf

Chris Collins, President

Captain's Comment

Hello everyone and welcome to Spring, daffodils, lambs and when you are on the 15th green, check out the lovely red blooms on the early Rhododendrons too.

Mens interclub is underway, Thompson McDonald starting slowly, a win, a half and two losses.  Pressies a good win first up. Over 60 has their first round on 28 September, and Metro A and B start mid October.

Thursdays are going well and will get better each week now as the days lengthen and gradually warm up. Come along any week and bring a friend if you like. You can book in but that is not compulsory, we will always find you a group to play in. 9:30 tee off, everyone welcome.

Saturdays this Month start with top dog this week, then a nine am multi tee start on the 13th when we play a Four ball better ball.  On the 20th we are playing the five club yellow ambrose that was cancelled in the rain last month, loads of fun. Final Saturday is the Battersby cup, play in pairs and multiply your stablefords with each other on every hole. 3 x 3 = 9 which is good, however 3 x 0 = 0 which is not so good!

Lastly I thank you in advance for sanding divots and repairing ball marks on the greens. Also you will see Jared and his willing helpers working their way through spreading soil on the fairways. Where it is raked and finished it is also seeded, so Please can you walk/drive on it as little as possible. Still drop off those areas too.

Go well and I'll see you out there, Captain Warren
