President's Report

Our Irrigation project installation phase is coming to a conclusion. By mid-next week we should have all of the piping and cable infrastructure securely underground and start on the final stages of the commissioning work. Jared along with the Contract team from McHerron Water and Civil have done an excellent job to get us to this point and be ahead of schedule. Once commissioning and testing is completed we will commence doing some repair work to the fairways and other areas which have been trenched. Due to late winter conditions it is not practical to apply grass seed to these areas until the start of Spring in early/mid-September. Please appreciate this is not an instant fix process. It will take a little time, care and attention to ensure we have good quality fairways for play by November/December.

New Season membership invoices have all been sent out with a note from George following advice from the Executive Committee to re-establish a set criteria for people who wish to make progress payments on their Subs. As outlined within your invoice email for existing Club Members (not available to new members) we have set a fixed schedule for progress payments with a 2-month upfront payment as a deposit, then 10 monthly payments thereafter, which will see all subscriptions paid in full by June. Please note, if we cannot achieve this structure, we may have to add an increased administration fee. We do not wish to do that so please ensure you revise your bank payments to meet the new criteria for payments.

Thursday and Saturday golf continues to see good numbers of members out playing and now we will have a full 18 holes playable we should see a return of visitors playing in the Thursday Tournament. Green fee players have certainly been very supportive through our irrigation installation, and we hope to see these numbers pick up as the days stretch out with warmer weather.

Course bookings and Tee times:

Please be patient, check in when you arrive, if all of your booked group have not arrived you may be required to play in another group to make up 4’s which helps to clear No1 tee as fast as possible. At the end of the day the “starter/duty manager” is working to get everyone playing as efficiently as possible, so please cooperate with their directions. Be aware that if everyone has special requests it quickly becomes impossible to manage.

Of late there has been a noticeable increase in unrepaired ground. We have enough going on with the course already with the irrigation work, therefore please do as much as you can to replace, repair and lightly sand the damaged areas.

Please help out on course by carrying sand, replace large divots/sand smaller ones and repair pitch marks on all greens. If we all contribute a little it means the course will be in much better condition for your next game.

A very appreciative shout out to those who repair more than their own divots and pitch marks, you know who you are. If we all make one extra repair when we see it, the course will be looking in much better shape.

Get out and enjoy your golf.

Chris Collins, President

Captain's Comment

Hello all and welcome to August, days lengthening and pipe work almost in the ground.

50 happy golfers played this Thursday in balmy 15 degree temps, very nice after a nought degree start! Scoring good too on a very playable course.

Saturday 4 person Ambrose, everyone off Yellow, only 5 clubs each, including putter, although you may choose to putt with your hybrid?? Add up the four Playing handicaps and divide by 8, that will be the team handicap. Must have 4 people, so if it rains and some pull out, let Will the starter make up the groups.

Then we have two weeks of Rushton trophy, Senior paired with a Junior, need not play together, but need all four scores to win, lowest overall nett.

Last Saturday is all Irons off Reds, that'll be fun, low scores but handicap slashed to pieces!

Comp teams getting started, Thompson McDonald have their first round at Greendale this Sunday and Pressies have a home match on Aug 24. Metro A and B plus over 60's start in October. If you want to play and have not been asked, see me or Monty.

Congratulation to Chris Collins winning the Head Shield over Andrew King last weekend. Good one to win - too big to leave the clubhouse.

Speed of play; seems I mention this a lot. If your group is losing ground on the group in front, please make an effort to catch up:

  • two going to hit while two are still putting
  • walking to your own ball on the fairway - or rough!!
  • not following to watch every shot
  • and generally being efficient with your time.

On the flip side to this, there are some very fast groups out there, and sometimes with a big field patience is required.

Volunteers

Many of you may not realise just what a big part the volunteers play at our club. Apart from general tidy ups with sticks and cones and branches that come down in the wind, they split wood for the fire, empty the rubbish bins, clean and care for the hire carts, look after the many garden/tree areas and sand the thousands of divots on the par three tee boxes. Plus other odd jobs around the course and clubhouse. If you have time on a Tuesday morning they can always find work for you, plus there are always tasty biscuits and good yarns at smoko time!

While on that subject I would like to acknowledge on behalf of the club all the good work Graeme Clark did over the last eight years or so as a volunteer and general handyman. He has done countless hours of fixing doors, windows, roof etc and I know he was the go-to guy whenever Kay had a job around the clubhouse. Graeme has retired from playing golf and we wish him all the best for the future.

That's all from me, enjoy your golf and I'll see you out there

From the Ladies Captain

Well this month sees us qualifying for the Club Champs. Next Tuesday 12th and if you can't make that, a second chance on 26th August. Saturday Ladies have the 23rd or 30th August.

Please start thinking about our Teams Stableford tournament on Friday 31st October. Note it in your calendar, sort out your team, but please also think about anyone you may know who we can approach for sponsorship on the day.  Also any donations for the raffle table will start being collected in the ladies room.

Any new lady members please feel welcome to come on a Tuesday morning at 9am for a 9.30 start to play either 9 or 18 holes. Saturday you can book online or phone the shop and get partnered with other ladies if you prefer. You can also phone myself or Haley on the committee to discuss how we work (phone numbers are in the front of the club programme).

You may also like to join on a Thursday at the mixed tournament, 9.30 start.

Enjoy these lighter, brighter days, see you soon

Sue Collins

  • You can drop the ball outside the bunker, behind it.
  • You get 1 penalty stroke.

3. Unplayable Ball in Bunker

If you think your ball is unplayable:
You have 3 options (all with a penalty):

  1. Go back to where you last hit from (1-stroke penalty)
  2. Drop inside the bunker, going back on a straight line (1-stroke penalty)
  3. Drop outside the bunker, behind it (2-stroke penalty)

From the Clubhouse

Our new point of sale system is up and running and has been well received by all the staff. Lynda has been test-driving it in the bar with Des away, and we hope to have Jan set up in the next few weeks too. One change that you may have already seen is that we are no longer giving cash as change for voucher payments. Instead, the remaining amount will be written on the voucher to be used again until the total amount is spent.

We have a few bags of Pinecones for sale in the shop at $10 each. Thank you to the volunteers who collected them.
