President's Report
Welcome to everyone for the start of another great season of golf. Opening Day drew a large number of members out to play and enjoy the summer conditions.
Well the first month of the year has ended, perhaps it’s because we are usually so busy in January that it’s over before you realise. The Club has had a very busy time with large numbers of members, visitors and green fee players taking advantage of the excellent run of weather we have had in the past few weeks. A large number of Campers are making use of the site and facilities.
Tee times have come under pressure particularly on Saturday afternoons and Sundays as we look to accommodate everyone for a game.
Can I please remind all members our Starters do their best to ensure people get their game underway with minimum disruption. That said, all players can assist with this by arriving early and being ready to start at their allocated start time.
The Executive held the first meeting for the year this week and already we have a list of work ahead of us. Things to do include; Budgets and Finance for 2025/26 and review planning for 26/27 season requirements. Staff cover for leave, Sponsors and Sponsorship, and assigning a few names to start our Project lists to be included within the 5 year plan. Key points are to complete the bar renovations (a replacement bottle fridge has been purchased), review the state of our Clubhouse roof to explore the opportunity to complete a gable roof over the entire Clubhouse, This would allow us to proceed with solar panels to cut power bills and ensure savings into the future. Also on the list is to revamp the outdoor seating area to create a more user friendly environment (watch this space). Lots to do for the next few months!
At McLeans Island all players are required to carry a sand bucket. Please remember to fix your pitch marks and replace your divots. These are two key things to help maintain a quality playing area.
Finally, some points for ensuring you play the game in the spirit it was intended.
All players are expected to play in the spirit of the game by:
· Acting with integrity – e.g. by following the Rules, applying all penalties, and being honest in all aspects of play.
· Showing consideration to others – e.g. by playing at a prompt pace, looking out for the safety of others, and not distracting the play of another player.
· Taking good care of the course – e.g. by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, repairing ball-marks, and not causing unnecessary damage to the course.
Enjoy your golf.
